With over 40 years of experience as an insurance law specialist, I am regarded as one of New Zealand’s most experienced insurance lawyers. Recently, Chambers & Partners Asia Pacific has rated me as the only New Zealand Senior Statesperson in insurance.
I have extensive experience in insurance claims. I have successfully litigated insurance disputes at all levels of the Court system in New Zealand. I have drafted many policy wordings, some from scratch. I have acted for several insurance industry bodies.
After being admitted to the Bar in 1978, I worked in family and criminal law before spending 18 years as an in-house lawyer for the original New Zealand Insurance Company. I joined Phillips Fox (now DLA Piper) as Special Counsel in 2002 and later became a partner. I have been a consultant since 2018.
My experience includes:
- Drafting policy wording. - Insurance coverage disputes - Litigating insurance matters at all Court levels. - Acting for insurance industry bodies.
